PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha announced that a man accused of stabbing and killing his roommate will be arraigned in January.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Yomar Espada is charged with William Sarmiento’s murder. He allegedly stabbed Sarmiento multiple times over a residential dispute.

According to police, Espada was living temporarily with Sarmiento. An argument broke out Wednesday afternoon on the first floor of the Sterling Avenue home.

“That argument turned physical,” said Maj. David Lapatin with Providence police. “The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim. The victim then walked out of the front door and collapsed on Judith street.”

Back in July, Espada appeared in district court in front of the victim’s family.

Espada will be arraigned on Jan. 3, 2024.
